Catalinbread really has outdone themselves with the Ottava Magus Octave Ring Multiplier. Using adventurous modern pedal design and coupling it with the warmth and thickness of an old-school Germanium fuzz / octave, the Ottava Magus is a real humdinger.
One of Catalinbread's goals with this new pedal was to cure the problem that has plagued so many fuzz boxes of the past - the intensity knob sounds good all the way up or all the way down, with not much going on in between. They succeeded miraculously. The Ottava Magus has an incredible spectrum of great tones throughout its range, especially considering its simple, tiny design and minimalist controls.
Another issue that has been addressed is that unlike most Octave / Fuzz pedals the octave-up effect works beautifully all the way up and down the neck. No more disappearing upper octave!
You might also notice the thunderous, fat low end and rich upper harmonics the Ottava Magus puts out. It is a full range fuzz in every sense of the word. And on top of that, it's remarkably quiet when you're not playing. The noise floor is virtually nonexistent.
